His healthcare career encompasses more than 25 years' executive level and consulting experience. As President of HealthSense, he has consulted with senior executives at hospitals and health systems, physician organizations, technology companies, biopharmaceutical firms, telecoms, educational institutions, vendors, startup ventures, trade associations, and insurance companies to devise, develop and execute innovative business strategies and technology solutions.

A recognized industry thought leader, Rick has authored over 100 articles on a wide range of health care subjects for publications such as Healthcare Informatics, Healthcare IT World, mHealth, MGMA Journal, and Healthcare Financial Management, and has since 2003 written about emerging technologies for the Journal of Health Information Management (HIMSS Journal). He has authored several Connected Health books (HIMSS) - his most recent book examines the market for Connected Health, Wearables and the IoT. He is a recognized thought leader and industry insider who has delivered speeches to national audiences as HIMSS, mHIMSS, CTIA, MGMA, AMGA, Premier, and VHA about strategic, business, technology, and operational issues in health care.
Rick is a graduate of Towson University (B.A.), American University (M.A.) and the Johns Hopkins University (M.B.A.). An avid sports enthusiast, he enjoys mountain biking, kayaking, hiking, skiing, weight training and currently holds black belts in two karate disciplines.
